傳說南方有一種蟲,名字叫蟻蝸,又叫青蚨,亦名魚伯。它的形狀似蟬、蝶且稍微大一些,翅膀像蝴蝶那樣寬大,顏色美麗,食之味道鮮美。它產卵必須要依附著花草的葉子,大小像蠶蛾的卵。如果把它的卵拿過來,那母青蚨就一定會飛過來,不管離得多遠都一樣。雖然是偷偷地拿走了它的卵,那母青蚨也一定知道藏卵的地方。用母青蚨的血塗在81文銅錢上,用子青蚨的血塗在另外81文銅錢上,每次去買東西,有時先用母錢,有時先用子錢,用掉的錢都會再飛回來,這樣循環往複,錢就永遠都用不完了。《淮南子.萬畢術》"青蚨還錢"註:"以其子母各等,置瓮中,埋東行陰垣下,三日復開之,即相從,以母血塗八十一錢,亦以子血塗八十一錢,以其錢更互市,置子用母,置母用子,錢皆自還也。"世稱錢為青蚨,本此。人們把這個中國古代神話傳說稱作「青蚨飛去復飛來」,把傳說中飛來的青蚨錢,稱作「神錢」。
宋華岳《秋宵有感》:「木耳有才持紫囊,堵皮無計換青晚」【青蚨】晉干寶《搜神記》卷十三:「南方有蟲,名嫩蠍,一名惻蠍,又名青陳 形似蟬而稍大,味辛美,可食。生子必依草葉,大如蠶子。取其子,母即飛來,不以遠近。雖潛取其子,母必知處。以母血塗錢八十一文,以子血塗錢八十一文,每市物,或先用母錢,或先用子錢,皆復飛歸,輪轉無已。故《淮南子術》以之還錢,名曰青跌。」
